Since yesterday I’ve kept singin a song from Charlie Chaplin, Smile. This is the lyric:
Smile, though your heart is aching, smile, even though it’s breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky you’ll get by. If you smile through your pain and sorrow, smile and maybe tomorrow you’ll see the sun come shining through, for you. Light up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness. Although a tear may be ever so near, that’s the time you must keep on trying. Smile, what’s the use of crying? You’ll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile.
Even while I was cooking – I sang that song. Then suddenly I heard a voice: “What’s wrong with cryin?”
That voice: “Doesn’t mean you can stop trying. But, when you are sad, why can’t you cry? Crying is something healthy.”
That voice: “I think you should stop singing that song”
